Party games for friends around a table
What do you play with a group when there is no card deck, no tokens, and no appetite for a long rules lecture? Below is a map for a night with friends and where Zayac sits among no-prop games.
What to play around a table
The best group games don’t need a studio or a host with a microphone. They need people willing to talk, laugh, and bluff a little. No-prop classics: associations, “who’s lying”, round-robin stories, yes/no questions. They work because the table is already the stage.
Zayac belongs there: you sit together, and the phone only keeps the secret.
Games without props
A no-prop game means nothing to print, cut, or deal. Phones already in pockets are enough. That helps on a trip, in the kitchen after dinner, and whenever the deck was left at home.
Party games with phones
A phone can replace a host and a deck if it doesn’t replace conversation. The bad version is everyone silently tapping. The good version is the screen showing a role while people look at each other. In Zayac discussion is deliberately live: no chat, associations only out loud.
How to join and run the first round is in the short guide.
Association games
Association games don’t test vocabulary for its own sake. They test hinting to your side and confusing the extra player. They’re fast, clear from the first circle, and scale from three people to a large group.
Bluffing games
The bluff isn’t about cards. The Hare must speak as if they know the word. Everyone else speaks as if they’re testing the person, not the word. Suspicion, a pause, a metaphor that’s a bit too good — that’s the game, not a bug.
A party game
Parties need a fast start and a clear goal. Zayac fills a room via QR, doesn’t need a dedicated host, and keeps rounds short. Between rounds you can change drinks, not reread a charter.
How Zayac differs from Mafia and card social games
Mafia-style games often need a host, closed eyes, and night phases. Card social games need a deck you carry around. Zayac is closer to word-and-suspicion games, but without paper: a private role on the phone, a word from a theme set, conversation at the table.
It doesn’t replace every night-role game. It’s a different format: daytime, loud, built on associations. Full rules are on the rules page.
